Starting The Day Off Right: Our Favorite Brunch Spots In Charleston For Your Girls' Getaway Weekend

At any start to the day, especially with girls, there needs to be a boozy brunch involved when it comes to getaway weekends.

That’s right. Bottomless mimosas and bloodies.

This is part of a multi-part series we created with the girls at Reagan Events— Reagan Kerr and her assistant Hannah Hunter, and myself, Shelby Ring of Ruby Riot Creatives wedding videography.

We love us some tasty snacks, some bougie cocktails, styley bars we can dress up or down in to feel super hot, and creating fun times with girlfriends, so here’s our take as late twenty-thirty-something Charleston locals on some of our favorite Brunch spots that are sure to be a crowd pleasure for you and your ladies getaway weekend in Charleston, South Carolina.

STARTING THE DAY OFF RIGHT WITH THE GIRLS, OUR FAVORITE BRUNCH SPOTS IN CHARLESTON FOR A GIRLS’ GETAWAY WEEKEND

Millers All Day: Sausage Gravy + Sawmill Grits

Millers All Day is a popular go-to. Great biscuits and sausage gravy, awesome grits… I feel like they always have a line. So your instinct is just to think, “Oh, it's a very touristy spot.” But I don't think so. I think it’s a long wait because it's good.

Blind Tiger: Historical Hot Spot Of Ill Repute…And Stick-A-Straw-In-The-Carafe-Mimosas

[Hannah] I also love Blind Tiger on Broad Street. I think it's at Sunday brunch— they serve Mimosa carafes with a big straw to sip out of it directly.

Fun Fact: What Is A Blind Tiger, You Ask?

It’s not a striped kitty with visual impairments. Here’s the historic connotation for you —

The term “Blind Tiger” was coined in the late 1800’s to describe the illicit drinking and gambling establishments opening their doors as temperance legislation swept across the country. The first “Blind Tigers” in South Carolina sprung up in the Holy City in 1893 as a defiant rebuttal to the “Dispensary” laws mandated by the infamous Governor Ben “Pitchfork” Tillman.

Local lore suggests Broad Street was home to many houses of “ill repute” throughout the years.

…Who doesn’t love a place of ill repute?!

Q: What restaurant in Charleston does really good Bloody Mary — like…they do it RIGHT. Any restaurants that do something unique?

The Darling Oyster Bar For The Bougiest Seafood Stacked Bloody Mary Ever

Reagan Kerr:

The Darling Oyster Bar. So the Darling Oyster Bar's Bloody Mary, where do I begin. So The Darling Oyster Bar is known for their raw bar, and their Bloody Mary is like a meal — they shove all sorts of seafood and crab claws, you name it!  It is DIVINE. Big recommendation there.

Babas On Cannon // European Style Cafe + Light Bites

One of our favorite go-to's in town for brunch that's good for a smaller group would be Babas On Cannon. It's a European-style cafe right off of King Street so that you can go there for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. It can serve all your needs from those morning drinks, coffee, light bites during the day. And then it's also one of my favorite places late at night, like a post-dinner drink. But that would be a very good, refreshing start to your day. You're not going to go wrong there.

The Daily On Upper King // Grab And Go, Morning Buns, Smoothies, Breakfast For A Quick Sit Down

Shelby Ring: Okay. That makes me think of The Daily as well. It’s a more grab-and-go local cafe created by the team that created Butcher & Bee (another favorite dinner spot downtown!) They have that quick grab-and-grow selection if you're leaving from downtown. And I shouldn’t be writing about this, but The Daily’s Pistachio Rose morning bun is the best dang pastry in Charleston (and they only sell a few dozen a day when they’re in season, so they’re always selling out.) That might be a good spot to stop and grab some local Charleston products and fresh bites for a Charleston beach picnic day.

Clerks Coffee @ Hotel Emeline | Quick Breakfast Sandwiches, Grab + Go Pastries

Clerks Coffee — the front space of the Hotel Emeline (one of Charleston’s newest hotels) building used to be a bank, so they’ve played that up. It’s a great spot where many Charleston locals come in to work on their computers or hold meetings. They have a great selection of coffee and espresso drinks, canned Kombucha and plenty of puff pastry treats, quick flatbreads, breakfast sandwiches, and baked goods while they last.

Frannie And The Fox // Hotel Emeline’s Sit Down Brunch Spot

If you and the girls are really hungry you can walk through the lobby over to Frannie And The Fox — the sit down restaurant inside Hotel Emeline. The restaurant has a bar inside, and they also have outdoor space. So you can cozy it by fire if it's chilly like it is now. It's so cute. It's so so cute.

And then you might want to meander down King Street, check out some of the shops, and make your way to lunch.
