NON-DRINKING ACTIVITIES: Spa, Workout, Relax During Your Trip In Charleston!

This is part of a multi-part series we created with the girls at Reagan Events— Reagan Kerr and her assistant Hannah Hunter, and myself, Shelby Ring of Ruby Riot Creatives wedding videography.

girls getaway weekend in charleston sc planning guide

A Note From Your Authors: We love us some tasty snacks, some bougie cocktails, super vibey bars we can dress up or down in to feel super cute, and creating fun times with girlfriends, so here’s our take as late twenty-thirty-something Charleston locals on some of our favorite non-drinking-focused activities that are sure to be a crowd-pleaser for your girls’ getaway weekend in Charleston, South Carolina.

Reagan Kerr: Maybe the day after drinking, you need a reset and get a spa day, maybe work off your calories and sweat it out. We like to go to Hylo. It's a good group workout. Hylo it's like the club-vibes brought to an exercise studio.

Buncha hot people at HyLo workin’ out…typical.

Orange Theory meets black lights. So you've got like your HIIT, high-intensity class that's all black light and neon vibes. And everybody there is really attractive. So on the “HY” side of what they do - it’s really fun, high energy, great music, great vibe. And then they also have their “LO” side of the business - that’s low-intensity classes like barre and yoga. So I feel like that would be a great start even before your boozy brunch; start the weekend off that way.

Hannah Hunter:

AND You can go to Nosh right next door at their West Ashley location, get some really good nutrient-dense toast, smoothies, coffee, creative non-coffee hot drinks like their Golden Turmeric latte… there’s something for everyone in your group. We love their avocado toast. Treat your body right before the weekend gets started…

Shelby Ring:

…And they also serve alcohol.

Nosh in West Ashley is a great post workout spot for a smoothie or some avocado toast in Charleston for your girls getaway weekend.

Hannah Hunter:

…Or don't treat your body right.

Reagan Kerr:

Get a leg up on the game with the mimosa in the morning, too, if that's your thing.

Take The Girls To A Fun AF Hip-Hop Dance Class At Dance Lab In West Ashley

Shelby Ring: So another off-the-grid, exclusive to Charleston, novel experience would be catching a dance class at Dance Lab. It’s over in West Ashley, but in the evenings throughout the week, they offer dance classes for grown @$$ adults, and it’s a total blast.

There are tons of beginner-friendly classes - like there’s an introduction to hip hop class that Naquan teaches that’s one of my favorites - it feels like a mix of dancing and stand-up comedy. Now and then, there may be a twerk class on the schedule. I think it's called Twerkaholics Anonymous. There are some very intro-level classes that you're sure to make some great memories and look like an idiot with your girlfriends, which is a fun novel experience. And then go to Home Team afterward in west Ashley for your post-dancing dinner and drinks! This would be a fun outing on a Thursday night before the weekend, and the downtown scene is super popping.

Go Walk The Ravenel Bridge: An Iconic Charleston Experience + View Of The City

go walk the ravenel bridge while you're in charleston for a great view of the city.

Walking the Ravenel Bridge if you’ve got an active group of girlfriends who want to get their steps in, or just take some time to clear their head after a night of bad choices… walking the Ravenel bridge is a very iconic Charleston experience. Walking from one side and back is about a 5-mile stint on a pretty epic incline. Tons of Charleston locals run and bike the bridge (pay attention to what side you’re supposed to walk on - those bikes come HAULING ASS by - be thoughtful! Don’t be that perfume cloud of women who take up the whole lane!)

The Ravenel bridge connects Mount Pleasant, Old Village, and Shem Creek with the Downtown Charleston peninsula. You can find ample parking on the Mount Pleasant side at Waterfront Park (type in 99 Harry M. Hallman Jr Blvd, Mt Pleasant, SC 29464 on your Maps to find where to park on the Mount Pleasant side.) There is free parking off of East Bay Street on the downtown side. (Type in 1 Cooper St, Charleston, SC 29403  to get you near the lot for parking on that side.)

It’s a fun way to get some easy exercise in while rehashing the bull you got into with the girls last night, and fun to snap some pics at the top for a little 2.5 mile half loop or, if you all are maniacs, do the full five miles base to base.

Self-Guided Walking Tour + Shopping Downtown Charleston

Reagan Kerr:

Other daytime stuff, I mean of course the shopping downtown Charleston, you could catch a historic home tour. I mean, or you just self-guided. One of my favorite things to do is to get a coffee in the morning and just walk yourself around South Of Broad and discover all that there is to see down the hidden gates and driveways of these beautiful homes. Or you could always do a spa day!

Woodhouse Day Spa In Mount Pleasant For A Girls Spa Day

What are specific spas that you guys like?

Reagan Kerr:

I'm a fan for a group of girls — Woodhouse Day Spa and specifically Woodhouse Day Spa in Mount Pleasant on Johnny Dodds road because their relaxation lounge is big. Then they can also cater like charcuterie boards and champagne for ladies. So that's a better low-key thing to do.

Bougie Poolside It: The Wonderer - Event Or Invite Only Private Club

Bougie poolside vibes…Yes please.

What's another relaxing-oriented activity?

Reagan Kerr: Oh, what's that new pool club? Oh, The Wonderer. It's like a VIP membership-only pool club, but they have some open events to the public you can get tickets for— so check their schedule. It’s super bougie vibes and fun. You feel sexy there.

Honestly, between exploring downtown Charleston on foot and then going to the beach, I mean that's all, that's the best that Charleston right there without having to make reservations. It's just that it doesn't get much better than that.
