SPENDING A DAY OUT AT FOLLY BEACH ON YOUR GIRLS GETAWAY WEEKEND- Where to brunch, lunch, and booze at Folly Beach!

Here’s a surf video we filmed + edited at Folly Beach during the CRAZIEST swell + surf of 2020 during Hurricane Isaias

Folly Beach is the grungy beach community of Charleston. You've got your weathered surfers, beach-bum hippies. Whereas Sullivan's Island is a little more golf-cart-and-polished beach chic, Folly Beach is grungy (in the best way.) You don’t have to be “Pinterest-status” wear-your-hair-down…You can actually wear your hair down. No makeup? No problem. Think barefoot sandy beach-bar vibe.

There’s a main strip out at Folly Beach that’s walkable — tons of little restaurants and bars that you can go hang out at and walk between. Here are our favorites to plan a day out on Folly Beach with the girls on your getaway weekend in Charleston.

PRO TIP ABOUT PARKING @ Folly Beach - Don’t Get A Ticket For Parking!! Park COMPLETELY OFF THE STREET - no wheels touching the asphalt AT ALL. They will get you! They check constantly (huge revenue driver for the city of Folly Beach), so watch out!

This is part of a multi-part series we created with the girls at Reagan Events— Reagan Kerr and her assistant Hannah Hunter, and myself, Shelby Ring of Ruby Riot Creatives wedding videography.

A note from your authors: We love us some tasty snacks, some bougie cocktails, super vibey bars we can dress up or down in to feel super cute, and creating fun times with girlfriends, so here’s our take as late twenty-thirty-something Charleston locals on some of our favorite pre-dinner cocktail spots that are sure to be a crowd-pleaser for you and your girls getaway weekend in Charleston, South Carolina.

Catch A Day Out At Folly Beach — Charleston’s Laid-Back Hippie Surfer Beach- BARS, LUNCH, DINNER, AND DRINKS AT FOLLY BEACH!

You’re living it up eating and drinking your way through downtown Charleston on your girl's weekend. But what are some midday activities you can do with the crew? How about catching a Folly Beach day.

Chico Feo: Surf Bums, Fish Tacos, Live Music + Local Hang Out

Hannah Hunter:

I love going out to Folly Beach and going to Chico Feo. It’s like a tiny little cabana bar, like Mexican street eats. There’s live music there pretty regularly, definitely a local hang-out spot.

Taco Boy’s Chips + Guac + Spicy Margs For The Win

Reagan Kerr:

There's Taco Boy out there. Get your fix on chips, guac, salsa and spicy margaritas. Taco Boy is a Charleston summer classic. There’s an air conditioned inside for those hot summer days when you need a break from the heat and humidity.

Ritas On Folly For Oysters On The Half Shell + Acoustic Music

Hannah Hunter:

Rita’s on that main strip out at Folly Beach is fun. They have oysters on the half shell, sometimes a little low-key live music playing out on the outdoor patio.

Loggerheads For Acoustic Live Music

Loggerheads Bar is also within walking distance; it’s an upstairs wooden deck, another spot you may find an acoustic singer-songwriter music scene. Flip flops and a cover-up kind of vibe.

The Washout For Live (Rockin’) Music + Dive Bar + Premium People Watching & Dancing

Hannah Hunter:

The Washout is another spot where there’s usually live music. They serve bar food, and on the weekends it’s definitely worth strolling by to check the pulse. It’s a little tucked off in an alley off of the main strip at Folly.

Lost Dog Cafe For Lunch: Get The Salmon Wrap, Bloody Mary’s + Awesome Brunch, Doggo Watching

lost dog on folly beach is a great lunch and brunch spot.

Hannah Hunter:

Lost Dog Cafe has a good brunch. Their salmon wrap is super good. It's kind of tucked away off the main strip (about a 2-minute walk.) So it's more secluded. You probably will have to wait, too, but there's a garden area beside that you can wait in. Sometimes they have their pop-up sidebar where you can order Bloody Mary’s or Mimosas or some form of Hair-Of-The-Dog while you wait. Also bonus: They have a Gallery Of Doggos on their website featuring the local pups who frequent Lost Dog Cafe. It’s adorable.

Jack Of Cups For Dinner - Ever-Evolving Asian/Thai Fusion, Vegetable Forward Refreshing Menu + Eclectic Bar Menu

jack of cups saloon folly beach dinner spots vegetarian friendly

There's Jack of Cups Saloon, which is another great dinner spot out at Folly beach. They have a Thai, Asian-inspired, very vegetable-forward menu. And all their tables are covered in Tarot cards, so that’s a fun conversation starter. I always love to close my eyes and move my finger around on the table like an Ouji board and open them to see what I land on and google what the heck that card means. Very entertaining and bound to start some shit-talking.

Low Life Bar: Vibey Ambiance, Great For Lunch + Drinks

Low Life Bar’s shrimp tacos are SO good!

Reagan Kerr:

Low Life Bar is a new-ish open air bar out at Folly Beach. Great food, great cocktails, cute vibe. Right off the strip. So again, super walkable. They have some creative cocktails.

Berts Market [Never Closes]: Grab-And-Go Groceries, Fresh Ice Cream, Sandwiches, Beach Supplies, Booze!

Hannah Hunter:

Bert’s Market — An iconic Folly Beach establishment. If you want to grab-and-go food situation, head to Bert's Market. They have everything, and you can get alcohol there too, or there's a liquor store right next door. And they have ice cream. And sushi. They have it all!

Shelby Ring:

Bert's never closes…That's the saying! As they say on their website

As the only grocery store on Folly proper, Bert’s Market has been serving the Folly Beach community for more than two decades.

Within our walls, you will find a wide variety of goodies, such as both conventional and organic groceries, meats, frozen food, a quick hot food bar (including our famous $0.75 hot dogs!), a full-service deli, CBD items, household goods, wine, beer, tobacco products, musical supplies (strings, picks, sticks…for the local musicians!), and more!

What’s more?  We never close.  We are open 24/7/365, including all major holidays.
